Police say stalker killed podcaster and her husband Friday
Police in California are investigating the death of a popular podcaster and her husband after they were shot and killed by a stalker on Friday.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department said in a statement that investigators believe the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Christopher Marks, was stalking the couple for some time before the shooting. Authorities said Marks had been stalking the victim, identified as podcaster Jennifer Yost, for weeks before the shooting.
Yost, 43, was a popular podcaster and advocate for mental health issues. Her husband, Justin Yost, 44, was an entrepreneur and a well-known member of the local business community.
According to the statement from the sheriff's department, police were called to the Yosts' residence in San Luis Obispo, California, on Friday morning after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found both victims dead and Marks still at the scene. Marks was taken into custody and is being held without bail.
Marks is facing two counts of murder and is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.
The sheriff's department said in a statement that investigators believe the motive behind the shooting was related to Marks' alleged stalking of the couple, and that they are still investigating the incident.
The sheriff's department also said it is “deeply saddened” by the tragedy and is working to provide the necessary resources and support to those impacted by it.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Yost family and all those affected by this tragedy.
