Melissa Joan Hart breaks down as she reveals she helped kindergartners flee Nashville shooting
Actress Melissa Joan Hart broke down in tears as she revealed how she helped kindergartners flee a shooting in Nashville, Tennessee.
The star of Sabrina the Teenage Witch was staying in the city on vacation when shots rang out in a nearby building.
Speaking to People magazine, Hart said she heard a loud bang and initially thought it was fireworks. However, it soon became clear that it was gunfire.
“I was on vacation in Nashville and I heard what I thought were fireworks, but then I heard a lot of yelling and screaming,” she said.
Hart said that she and her husband Mark Wilkerson ran downstairs to find out what was going on.
“We ran outside and saw a bunch of kids running away from a building, and then Mark realized it was a shooting,” she said. “We ran to help the kids and get them to safety.”
Hart said that it was a “horrifying” experience.
“I was just trying to keep the kids calm and get them away from the danger,” she said. “It was so scary.”
Hart said that the children she helped were kindergartners and that she was “so relieved” when they were all safely away from the scene.
The shooting left a total of four people dead and three more injured. The authorities have not released any details about a possible suspect or motive.
Hart said that the experience has left her shaken and she is having difficulty processing what happened.
“I’m still trying to process it all,” she said. “It’s been a really tough week.”
