Judge shields Hunter Biden’s finances from public in child-support case

A judge has ruled that Hunter Biden’s financial records will be shielded from the public in a child-support case.

The ruling, issued by Judge Robert D. Hinkle of the District of Columbia Superior Court, comes after Joe Biden’s son sought to block the release of his financial information.

Hunter Biden, who is the son of the former US Vice President, was sued by a woman seeking child support payments for her three-year-old daughter. The woman, Lunden Alexis Roberts, had requested that Hunter Biden disclose his financial records, including his tax returns, in order to establish his ability to pay child support.

However, Judge Hinkle ruled that the financial records should remain confidential, citing the “personal privacy interest” of Hunter Biden. The judge noted that the financial records would be used solely to determine the amount of child support to be paid and said that the woman had not established that the disclosure of Hunter Biden’s financial information was “necessary and appropriate.”

The ruling comes just weeks after Hunter Biden was embroiled in controversy after it was revealed that he had been paid large sums of money for his work on the board of a Ukrainian energy company. The news sparked an uproar among critics of the former Vice President, who accused the Biden family of using their political connections to enrich themselves.

While the ruling protects Hunter Biden from having to publicly disclose his financial records, the child-support case will still go ahead. Hunter Biden is expected to appear in court later this month to testify in the case.

The ruling is a victory for Hunter Biden, who has sought to keep his financial records private. The ruling also serves as a reminder of the personal privacy interests of individuals in the midst of a highly publicized legal battle.
