Multiple people injured in shooting at Nashville’s Covenant School; shooter dead

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A shooting at Nashville's Covenant School on Friday morning left multiple people injured and the shooter dead, police said.

At least six people were injured in the shooting, which began shortly after 9 a.m. local time. Police said the shooter, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No students were injured in the shooting, which occurred in the school's parking lot. The school was immediately placed on lockdown and police were seen entering the building shortly after the incident.

The school, located in the heart of Nashville, is a private Christian school with a student body of about 300 students.

“We are devastated by the events that occurred on our campus this morning,” school officials said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and the injuries suffered by those affected. We are grateful to our police and first responders who responded quickly and professionally to the situation.”

No further details have been released and police are still investigating the incident. The school will remain closed until further notice.

The incident comes just a month after a gunman opened fire in a nearby church, killing one person and injuring seven others.
