Military family devastated after Marine combat veteran killed while driving Uber near Los Angeles

A military family is in mourning after their Marine combat veteran was killed while driving for Uber in Los Angeles.

On Sunday night, 33-year-old David Michael Martinez, a proud Marine veteran and father of two, was killed in a car accident near the intersection of Mission Road and La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles.

Martinez had served in the Marines for nearly 10 years and had served multiple tours overseas, including deployments in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa.

Martinez was an active member of the Marine Corps Reserves and had recently returned from his final deployment in the Middle East.

He was driving for Uber while he was waiting to receive his benefits from the military.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Martinez was driving his Uber when another vehicle slammed into his car. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Martinez’s family is devastated by the loss of their loved one.

“He was a great father to his two children and a beloved son, brother and cousin,” his cousin, Christina Martinez, told Fox News. “He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to be the life of the party. He was kind, selfless and an all around great person.”

Martinez leaves behind two young children, ages 4 and 6. His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs and to provide for his children’s future.

“We are asking for any donations to help us lay our brother, son, father and cousin to rest,” Martinez’s family wrote on the page.

Martinez’s family is also asking for prayers and support as they grieve their loved one.

“He was an amazing person who loved his family and friends very much,” Martinez’s cousin said. “He will be deeply missed.”
