Millions of Fitbit owners warned app will stop working on older iPhones – are you affected?
Millions of Fitbit owners have been warned that their app will stop working on older iPhones.
The popular fitness tracking device manufacturer has announced that the Fitbit app will no longer be supported on iPhones 5S and older. This means that users with these models will no longer be able to enjoy the full range of features offered by the Fitbit app.
The decision has been made due to the app being built on the iOS 13 operating system which is not supported by iPhones 5S or older.
Fitbit has urged users to upgrade their iPhone in order to continue using the app, but is offering a range of alternative options to those unable to upgrade.
The company said in a statement: “We are aware that some of our customers may not be able to upgrade their iPhones, so we are offering them other ways to stay connected to the Fitbit app.”
These options include using Fitbit’s mobile app for Android and Windows, or using a web browser on any compatible device.
Fitbit has also announced that it will continue to offer its app on Apple Watch Series 3 and later, as well as on iPad Air 2 and later.
The company has urged users to check the App store for compatibility before downloading the app and to regularly update to the latest version.
The news has come as a blow to millions of Fitbit owners who use the app for tracking their exercise, heart rate, calorie intake and more.
It is not just Fitbit owners who are affected by the changes – many other apps and services will also be affected by the iOS 13 operating system, so it's important to check your device's compatibility before downloading any app.
For now, it seems that the only way to make sure that you are able to continue using the Fitbit app is to upgrade your iPhone to a newer model.
