ONE Championship: China’s Zhang Peimian tells Jon Di Bella ‘see you soon’ after win, US$50,000 bonus in Singapore
China's Zhang Peimian delivered a confident prediction after taking home US$50,000 in a ONE Championship bonus in Singapore.
The Chinese kickboxer earned the hefty prize money after claiming a unanimous decision victory over the Philippines' Jon Di Bella in a ONE Super Series Muay Thai bantamweight bout.
“See you soon,” Zhang told Di Bella after the bout, which took place on the undercard of ONE: A New Era, the promotion's first-ever event in the Lion City.
The victory earned Zhang his second consecutive win in ONE Championship, following a unanimous decision victory over Japanese fighter Hiroaki Suzuki in January.
Zhang's win over Di Bella was particularly impressive, as he was able to keep his opponent at bay with his powerful striking and crisp footwork.
The Chinese martial artist was also able to land some clean punches and kicks to the body of Di Bella, which eventually led to the judges awarding him the win.
The win over Di Bella was Zhang's seventh consecutive victory, and his first since joining ONE Championship in 2018.
Zhang's win was also the first time in ONE Championship history that a fighter had earned a US$50,000 bonus for a win in a Muay Thai bout.
The Chinese martial artist was understandably ecstatic after the win and said he is looking forward to his next bout.
“It was great to come away with this win and the bonus,” said Zhang. “I'm looking forward to what's next.”
Zhang will now turn his focus to training and preparing for his next fight, with the promise of seeing Di Bella again soon.
