Eidevall says Arsenal can take ‘confidence’ from Tottenham trouncing into their duel with Bayern Munich
Arsenal can take a big dose of confidence into their Champions League tie with Bayern Munich on Wednesday, according to Swedish defender Jonas Eidevall.
The Gunners face the German giants in a crunch last-16 tie at the Allianz Arena, and Eidevall believes they can take heart from the way their North London rivals Tottenham dismantled Bayern in the group stage.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Eidevall said: “It’s a big game for Arsenal and it’s an important game for the Premier League.
“Tottenham did a great job against Bayern in the group stage, and I think Arsenal can take confidence from that.
“They know what it takes to beat Bayern Munich, so it will be a very interesting game.”
Eidevall, who plays for Swedish side IFK Gothenburg, added that the Bayern team of today is different from the one Spurs faced, with the likes of Serge Gnabry, Robert Lewandowski and Philippe Coutinho now in their ranks.
“Bayern have changed a lot since then and they’ve added some really good players — the likes of Gnabry, Lewandowski and Coutinho,” he said.
“It will be a really tough game for Arsenal, but they must take confidence from what Spurs did and try to do the same.”
Arsenal head into the game on the back of a 3-2 win over Everton at the weekend, while Bayern were held to a 1-1 draw by Paderborn.
The Gunners will be looking to cause an upset and qualify for the quarter-finals, and Eidevall believes they have a good chance of doing so.
“If Arsenal can keep a good shape and play with confidence, then they have a good chance of winning the game,” he said.
“It’s all about taking your chances and playing well on the night, and I’m sure they can do that.”
