Actor Shamier Anderson is savoring a career rise as he takes on a major role in the third installment of the popular action franchise, “John Wick.”

The Canadian-born actor recently spoke to ABC News about his journey, the excitement of being part of the franchise, and the importance of representation in the industry.

“I'm very excited to be part of this franchise,” Anderson said. “It's a great opportunity for me to showcase my skills and to be part of something that is so iconic.”

Anderson has had to wait for his big break. After graduating from the University of Toronto with a degree in theatre, he appeared in a number of small roles before getting a chance to play a major role in the “John Wick” franchise.

Anderson said he was drawn to the franchise because of the complex characters and story lines.

“It's such an interesting world and I love the characters and the way they interact with each other,” he said. “It's so much more than just action and violence. It's about relationships and loyalty.”

Anderson also said he was particularly excited about the fact that the franchise has strong representation for people of color.

“It's important because it shows that people of color can be leading heroes in a franchise like this,” he said. “It's exciting to see people of color being represented in a positive way and to be part of a franchise that is breaking the mold for what is expected in a movie like this.”

Anderson is now looking forward to the release of the next installment of the franchise and is hopeful that it will be as successful as previous films.

“I'm excited to see how people respond to the film,” he said. “It's a great chance for me to showcase my skills and be part of something that is so iconic.”
