Halle Bailey shares she spent up to 13 HOURS in water a day while filming The Little Mermaid

Halle Bailey has revealed the dedication she put into her performance in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. The actress, who plays Ariel, said she spent up to 13 hours in water a day while filming the movie.

The 20-year-old singer and actress shared her experience while in conversation with Allure magazine. She said: “It was really tough being in the water for so long. I literally spent 13 hours in the water one day. It was so cold — you can't really get out and warm up or anything.”

Despite the demanding schedule, Bailey said she enjoyed the experience. “It was really cool because you get these moments where you're in the water and it's just so peaceful and quiet. It's like its own world down there,” she said.

Bailey also spoke about her preparation for the role, which included learning to swim. “I never learned how to swim until I got the job. I was so nervous about it,” she said.

The actor has also been vocal about the importance of the movie in terms of representation of people of color. “It's such an honor to be a part of a movie that is so iconic, especially with Ariel being a mermaid. I feel like this role is something bigger than me. It's going to be really special,” she said.

The Little Mermaid, which is set to be released in 2021, also stars Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem and Awkwafina. It follows the classic story of a young mermaid who longs to be part of the human world.
