Last night, viewers of American Idol were moved to tears by contestant Fire’s performance. Fire, a 16-year-old singer from New York City, sang an emotional rendition of “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus.
The performance was so moving that judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie were both brought to tears. Perry was the first of the two to be overcome with emotion, wiping away tears as she praised Fire for her incredible talent.
“You are so special and so powerful,” Perry said. “Your voice is so strong and so beautiful. It’s one of those performances that I will never forget.”
Richie was also brought to tears by Fire’s performance. He praised Fire for her “God-given talent” and said that she had “touched his heart”.
“What an honor it is to be in the presence of such a beautiful performance,” Richie said. “Your voice is so powerful and so pure. You have a gift.”
