Cost of living payment dates: DWP confirms first instalment to be paid from next month

The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that the cost of living payment dates for the next two years have been confirmed. From next month, the first instalment of the Cost of Living Payment (COLP) will be paid to eligible claimants.

COLP is a one-off payment that helps those on a low income or benefits to cover the costs of living. The payment is designed to help those who are struggling to make ends meet, and to ensure they can live with dignity.

The first instalment of the payment is due to be paid in April 2021, with the second instalment due in October 2021. The third instalment is due in April 2022, and the fourth instalment will be paid in October 2022. Finally, the fifth instalment will be paid in April 2023, with the sixth and final instalment due in October 2023.

The payment is available to those who receive certain benefits, such as Jobseeker’s Allowance, Universal Credit, Income Support or Employment and Support Allowance. Those who are receiving the payment are advised to budget accordingly, as the money is designed to cover their living costs for the next two years.

The DWP has also said that claimants should contact their local Jobcentre Plus office if they have any questions about the payment, or if they require further information about eligibility criteria.

The payment is part of the government’s wider commitment to supporting those on a low income or benefits, and to help ensure that all members of society can live with dignity.
